May 12, 2025Whether you’re a weekend camper or a full-time road warrior, knowing how to properly set up and tear down your campsite is essential to a smooth and enjoyable RV experience. With Ember’s user-friendly features and thoughtful design, the process is easier than ever. Here’s a complete guide to help you set up and tear down your Ember RV like a pro.
Step-by-Step Campsite Setup
- Find and Position Within Your Site
- Pick a level spot with good drainage.
- Make sure your hookups (if available) are easily accessible.
- Position the RV within the site with enough space for slide-outs and awnings.
- Level Your RV
- Use leveling blocks under the tires to level your unit as most campsites, unless on pavement, won’t be 100% level.
- Ensure its level by checking front-to-back and side-to-side using a bubble level.
- Chock the Wheels and Disconnect the Tow Vehicle
- Place wheel chocks behind the tires to prevent movement and engage the lockable integrated parking brake (Overland Series only) to ensure the unit cannot roll forward or back.
- Unhitch the tow vehicle, and ensure the trailer is secure.
- Deploy the Stabilizers
- Lower your stabilizer jacks to reduce movement and sway inside the RV. (Stabilizers should not be used to level your RV, only to “stabilize”).
- Make sure they’re snug but not lifting the RV off the ground.
- Hook Up Utilities (if available)
- Electric: Connect your power cord to the pedestal and set the correct amperage.
- Water: Connect a clean water hose to the city water inlet using a pressure regulator.
- Sewer: Attach the sewer hose to the dump outlet and secure it to the campground sewer connection if available. Not all sites are direct dump sites.
- Slide-Outs and Awnings
- Extend your slide-outs, making sure you have the clearance to do so before extending.
- Roll out the awning and secure it as needed.
Step-by-Step Campsite Tear Down
- Clean and Pack Up Outdoor Items
- Put away chairs, rugs, and any outdoor gear.
- Clean your campsite – don’t leave anything behind, belongings or trash!
- Follow “Leave No Trace” principles.
- Retract Slide-Outs and Awning
- Bring in slide-outs and roll up the awning.
- Close your windows and latch them properly.
- Make sure everything is secured for travel.
- Disconnect Utilities
- Power: Turn off breakers and disconnect the power cord.
- Water: Turn off and disconnect the hose; drain it and store it properly.
- Sewer: Dump tanks at designated dump station, flush the hose, and stow it in its designated compartment.
- Raise Stabilizers and Hitch Up
- Retract stabilizer jacks and secure in place.
- Reconnect the tow vehicle and double-check your hitch setup.
- Do a Final Walkaround
- Check tire pressure and torque lug nuts.
- Ensure all windows, doors, and compartments are latched and locked.
- Make sure lights and brake connections are functioning properly.
Setting up and tearing down camp might seem like a chore, but with a little practice, it becomes second nature. These steps not only keep your trip running smoothly but also help protect your RV and keep you safe. Ready to roll out and set up stress-free? Ember’s got your back every step of the way.
